With the news of Marc Newson’s appointment as Senior Vice President of Design at Apple, the industrial designer has also released the 10-year anniversary collection of G-Star by Marc Newson. First presented at the London Design Museum earlier this year, the capsule range features twelve limited edition leather jackets, signed by Newson, exclusive to luxury e-tailer oki-ni.com
In a world of one-off collaborations, G-Star is celebrating a decade of collaborating with Australian designer Marc Newson. Since 2004, Newson’s capsule collections have become renowned for their architectural constructions, streetwear references, and premium fabrications. The 10-year anniversary collection is no exception, offering everything and more that fans have come to love from G-Star RAW X Marc Newson.
The Autumn/Winter 2014 collection highlight is the Anniversary Bomber Jacket. The changeable bomber jacket features a collection of patches that represent a decade’s worth of graphics. When turned, a black quilted side is revealed, offering a minimalist alternative.
“The inspiration was simply to identify and focus on what we felt were the iconic motifs over the last ten years and to represent them visually in a single piece, which could itself become iconic within the context of our history.” Newson on the Reversible Tour Jacket
An exclusive version of the piece has been created for oki-ni.com. Produced in premium leather, though not reversible, the limited edition 12-piece run are each numbered, and signed by Newson.
The Seven Day Suit is another notable concept. Designed to be treated exactly like your denim, the premium, wool pieces require no dry-cleaning or ironing. The suit, which features a 5-pocket deconstructed slim blazer, looks equally as good with sneakers as it does with dress shoes – making it suitable for any occasion, any day of the week.
Premium cotton fabrics are, as always, an essential part of the range. Tees and sweats are recognisable for their simple, but bold varsity-inspired artwork.
The premium capsule collection is completed with a selection of Japanese selvedge denims. Newson designed his take on the traditional 5-pocket denim, the 5-Pocket Denim Slim with boxy rear pockets and rivet-trimmed front pockets. Made from high-quality selvedge denim, woven on a traditional loom, the piece is available in indigo blue and heather grey versions.
Tees and sweats in premium cottons are identifiably G-Star by Marc Newson, with simple yet bold, varsity-inspired artwork. The collection is completed with the Dalm and Nuag prints, an abstracted take on traditional spots and stripes that add intriguing contrast to the cleaner graphics.
The G-Star by Marc Newson 10-Year Anniversary Collection with limited edition leather jacket is now available at oki-ni.com, and as of 1st October in stores and online at g-star.com
